John Steffens currently
serves as executive director of the Public Service
Institute, a think-tank in the areas of education
and human services. His background incorporates
a broad spectrum of educational experiences, including
school teaching and administration; development
of a broad variety of human and social service
programs; the evaluation of social service programs;
and the organizational analysis of schools and
social service organizations. He has served as
a special consultant in the areas of program services
and grant development to the Center for Substance
Abuse Prevention, the U.S. Department of Education,
the National Advisory Council on Equal Educational
Opportunity, the Bureau of Indian Affairs, the
Institutes of Health, the U.S. Departments of Energy,
Defense and Labor, the Urban League, the U.S. Air
Force, the Organization of American States and
a host of other state, local and community agencies,
departments and programs, nationally and internationally.
Dr. Steffens joined University of Oklahoma
in 1971 as an educational field consultant and
later served 18 years as assistant vice provost.
Dr. Steffens received his doctorate in educational
administration in 1976 and his master's degree
in education in 1970, both from OU. He received
his bachelor's degree in education from Concordia
Teacher's College.
