Terry L. Smith is the program director for the Lean Institute at Tinker Air Force Base. Lean Institute is a unique partnership between Outreach, the University of Oklahoma College of Engineering, National Graduate School, DRK Research and Rose State College. The institute provides comprehensive training that integrates the three process improvement tools most commonly deployed throughout the industry today – Lean, SCOR (Supply Chain Operations Reference) and Six Sigma. Lean strategies are designed to enhance efficiency, streamline processes, reduce waste and costs and increase war fighter support capacity at Tinker.

Smith brings more than 25 years experience in benchmarking and lean manufacturing experience with Boeing.

Away from work, Smith enjoys spending time with her husband and blended family of five children, five grandchildren and one on the way, OU sports and riding her motorcycle at the lake. She recently tried skydiving for the first time and highly recommends everyone to try it at least once.

Smith earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism from OU in 1981.
